Why is a desk phone failing to register with the system?

A desk phone usually fails to register due to a local network blockage (SIP traffic being filtered by a firewall), an incorrect provisioning URL, or a MAC address mismatch in the admin portal.

Quick Troubleshooting Steps

  1. Verify the MAC Address: Log into the Admin Portal, navigate to Devices, and double-check that the phone’s 12-character MAC address matches the physical sticker on the back of the device exactly. A single typo will prevent registration.
  2. Check Network & PoE Connectivity: Ensure the ethernet cable is plugged into the LAN port of the phone (not the PC port) and that the phone is successfully drawing an IP address from your local network.
  3. Inspect Firewall / SIP ALG Settings: UCaaS/CCaaS hardware requires open outbound paths. Ensure your network administrator has disabled SIP ALG on your local router/firewall and whitelisted the platform’s required signaling ports (typically UDP/TCP 5060/5061) and media ports.
  4. Factory Reset & Re-provision: If the phone was previously used with another provider, perform a physical factory reset via the phone’s menu settings. Once reset, ensure the Provisioning Server URL points correctly to our platform’s redirection server.
